Headshots and
composites are often needed for modeling and performing arts requirements.
Most agencies prefer a very simple and clean looking headshot in B&W.
Often they reject images where complex lighting, soft focus,
filtering, etc. has been used. Headshot requirements are for a "minimally
manipulated" photo, an honest representation.

Images for a personal
portfolio, or a composite layout, however, can serve a different purpose,
and strategies can be quite different from your "headshot".
It's
always a good idea to consider your specific audience. Generally, however,
versatility and creativity is not only acceptable but desirable.
A chameleon like quality across images selected will show versatility.
This will provide a higher chance your audience will see what they're looking
for.

| Whether one's just getting started with a portfolio, or wants fresh
images, I always encourage a change of attire, hair, formal and
casual for any one photo session. Again, the more diverse the images
presented, the more likely you'll make an impression as a talent desirable
to work with.
